guild-master
A full member of a guild, a master within, not a head of a guild.
Engels's own explanation, added to the 1888 English edition. A guild was an association of craftsmen in one trade that controlled who could practise it.
- Frederick Engels, Manifesto of the Communist Party, English edition, note by Engels, 1888
